Michele Peterson-Badali is a Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development at the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and currently serves as OISE’s Associate Dean, Research, International & Innovation. Her teaching, research, and service have strong connections to communities and organizations related to the rights and wellbeing of children and youth. Her research focuses on children’s and adolescents’ developing knowledge, reasoning, perceptions, and experiences of the youth justice system, their understanding of rights, and their evolving legal capacities. One of the guiding principles of her research program over the past 25 years has been to provide an evidence basis for youth justice policy and practice. In addition to scholarly dissemination of her work, Michele is actively engaged in bringing her research findings into the spheres of public policy and practice.
